Job Description

The Disability Counselor Assistant reports to the Disability Specialist in the Accessibility and Disability Service and will be responsible for providing assistance in the service’s note taking and alternate format of printed materials units.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Accessing and responding to email and telephone messages from students requesting note taking and alternate text services and instructors with questions regarding note taking and/or alternate text accommodations. Assisting ADS staff in the assignment of the appropriate note taking service for eligible students. Making referrals to the Human Resources representative for note taker payments. Assisting the Alternate Text Coordinator in processing required conversion of printed materials into alternate formats. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Disability Studies, Psychology, Special Education, or related field and at least two years of experience working in disability service, preferably in educational settings.

  • Handle queries and requests for information competently
  • Work effectively as part of a team to achieve established outcomes
  • Pay close attention to detail in all aspects of the job
  • Create and maintain accurate databases
  • Retrieve information quickly and efficiently
  • Manage and complete multiple tasks accurately and by deadline
  • Display solid working knowledge of standard computer applications including MS Word, Excel, creation of PDF documents, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Draft correspondence and documents using good language and grammar skills
