Job Description

This is a Sales and Business Development role where you will facilitate the transition and subsequent growth of new business within the data center marketplace. Products sold will include uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power distribution units (PDU), IT cabinets/racks, cabling, infrastructure such as ladder racks, cable troughs, cooling, KVM’s, network switches, etc.
The role will have a strong focus on HyperScale, Colocation data centers, cloud hosting, and edge data centers. For example Amazon Web Services (AWS), Equinix, Google, Flexential. You will have existing relationships and experience calling on decision makers and influencers at multiple data center providers, integrators, and operators.
Ideally this candidate will be located in Chicago at our HQ, but we are open to considering candidates in a metro area with close vicinity to a major airport.
  • Leads all aspects of sales from development of new business strategies for profitable penetration into new and existing data center accounts and market segments.
  • Develop & uncover large key account sales opportunities within USA region and/or target OEM’s.
  • Leads and drives new program ideas which result in profitable new business volume and the execution of key account plan(s) to ensure achievement of assigned business goals.
  • Guides business development efforts within specific key accounts and/or markets, developing sponsorship with key decision-makers and influencers.
  • Role will interface with sales, product management, order administration, Tripp Lite executives and other key personnel at all levels.
  • Identify and execute short and long-term business plans and actions.
  • Manage projects and opportunities to sales cycle closure.
  • Use to maintain account activities, identify key decision makers, etc.
  • Develop solutions & architectures for targeted initiatives and applications with the assistance of sales engineering and other subject matter experts.
  • Provide input on competition in accordance to company integrity and Code of Conduct policies & guidelines.
  • Negotiate value propositions and pricing offers for special agreements.
  • Screens potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials, evaluating options and resolving internal roadblocks and/or priorities.
  • Closes new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts using the contracts specialist at Tripp Lite and helping with contract and business operations requirements.
  • BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years industry-specific business development and/or account management experience
  • In-depth understanding and existing relationships within the data center market, with operators, facilities operations, IT operations, and edge data center deployments.
  • Experienced presenter and negotiator at decision making levels
  • Successfully serves as point of authority and/or source of technical knowledge for area of expertise.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of organization’s products, services & business practices, as well as issues faced and contributes to problem resolution of those issues.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
