What is the Role?

SSE Enterprise are looking to appoint a Commissioning engineer to work on DNO Primary Substations preferably up to 132kV but in the main 33kV.

In this role, you’ll be working on new greenfield primary substations, ‘brown field’ projects, Transformer Replacement, Switchboard Replacement 33/11kV, Circuit Breaker Replacement either independent or as part of a project, Switchboard Extensions and the Decommissioning of existing substations.

Therefore, you’ll become involved with the Principal Designer on fully designed projects or with our nominated Design Engineers on Design and Build Projects from inception through to practical completion. You’ll need an excellent attention to detail, as you will verify, modify and issue schematic drawings as required to complete installations.

As a commissioning Engineer you’ll also become part of the project team working to SSEN Policies and Procedures. The Commissioning Engineer will represent SSE Enterprise Contracting during any interactions with SSEN during the delivery process to ensure that the projects are delivered on time and to budget.

What Do I Need?

To be successful in this role, you’ll have an HNC in Electrical Engineering with experience in commissioning electrical systems or an Electrical Trades NVQ. You’ll also have experience in: –

– Producing and executing the project commissioning and testing plan.

– LV & HV switching (Subject to Authorisation) and issuing of safety documentation.

– Commissioning HV Electrical Systems.

– RTS/SCADA control systems.

– Health and Safety Regulations.

– Electrical Fault Finding.

– Good understanding of HSQE requirements including CDM Regulations.

Previous use of Omicron CMC 365 test sets with their advanced protection package is not essential but would be advantageous. In addition, experience and/or understanding of the latest Argus / Toshiba / Eberle AVC Relays and Transformer Oil Temperature Probes would also be advantageous.

It would be preferable that you hold a current DNO Authorisation to accept safety documents.

Finally, it is an essential requirement for this role that you have a full, current driving licence.

About the Department

Our Commercial and Connections teams are the first point of contact for customers wishing to have a new electricity connection, increase the size of their existing connection, install generation, or move the equipment supplying their property. We’re here to help whether our customers are building a single home, housing development, industrial development, generation development or independent distribution network. Our responsibility is to respond to challenging changes in our licence obligations, growing levels of competition and play a key role in progression to a low carbon future.

What is the Role?

As a Project Manager, you’ll provide leadership and management for the teams within the department ensuring they contribute to the overall success of the department and the company.

You’ll use your leadership, organisational, diagnostic and problem-solving skills and will need to be an effective communicator at all levels. You’ll also manage the delivery of connection projects to meet the customer expectation, delivering on time and to cost.

You will be responsible for delivering the designed solution ensuring any potential impacts to design, cost or load capacity are highlighted, escalated and addressed immediately. Ensuring all contract based works are completed in line with the relevant contract and the escalation of any contractor concerns through to management chain. This may include liaising with Commercial in P&C.

What do I need?

To ensure you get the most from your role you’ll have a sound working knowledge of the electrical distribution industry. Experience and knowledge of operating on LV distribution networks up to 33kv is preferred. You’ll possess an IOSH / CDM qualification (or equivalent business experience) to enable correct application of Safe Working Management Procedures PR-NET-OCS-001. You’ll also possess a Prince 2 qualification (practitioner level) or be working towards qualification (or relevant business experience) for Project Management.

You’ll be confident managing multiple outputs within the team and indirect reports; furthermore, you’ll have previous experience of both people and customer management with a proven track record for delivering work safely, on time and within budget.

Whilst the above skills and experience are important, we also have several personal competencies that we look for in our employees, you’ll have a regard for safety and embed yourself in our safety culture, adhering to guidelines in everything you do as a key priority. Outstanding customer relationship skills and a commitment to providing a high-level service is essential coupled with an ability to liaise comfortably with key stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.

For this role you must have a full, current driving license.
