BTP Jobs for Police Officer is implementing a project to introduce a new and innovative crime allocation policy and structure; this is based upon threat, risk, harm and complexity modelling, and aims to enhance the standards of investigation provided to victims and witnesses of crime. The allocation policy allows BTP to focus on those crimes that cause the greatest harm, setting out the level of investigator that will be allocated each type of crime.

The successful candidates will conduct proactive and reactive investigations into complex and serious crimes, ensuring that the best possible evidence is secured and that cases are fully and efficiently investigated to allow a considered decision to be taken about the prosecution of offenders. They will also act as a liaison officer for victims and witnesses of crimes being investigated, ensuring that they are made aware of the progress of the investigation with the appropriate support and reassurance.

British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network in England, Scotland and Wales. Every day we ensure the safety and security of over six million passengers and railway staff.

In response to the increased UK threat level from international terrorism, and to ensure we have the right level of resources to respond to any threat, we are significantly increasing our armed capacity in the Midlands and North West. This is your opportunity to join a modern and forward-thinking force in a highly-trained role as one of our Authorised Firearms Officers (AFOs) either permanently or on a secondment basis (subject to approval).

Our Authorised Firearms Officers provide the travelling public with a highly visible and reassuring presence, helping to achieve our objective to increase public confidence, whilst also working to detect and deter terrorism on the rail network. Our firearms officers are trained to the same national Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) profile used across all UK police forces, and are able to provide a swift and capable response to live incidents and emerging threats.

Candidates will be recruited against the ARV role profile, and undertake an intensive firearms training course delivered by our team of dedicated firearms instructors. If successful, you will join a professional team at the forefront of our counter-terrorism activity and will maintain the high standards we expect through regular shooting and tactics training.

The training is highly intensive. You must be prepared to meet the tough physical requirements of the role with an ability to run to level 9.4 on the Job-Related Fitness Test. You must also be prepared to undertake enhanced BTP vetting and medical checks to further determine your suitability for the role.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from Civil Nuclear Constabulary Officers at this time. Ministry of Defence Firearms Officers are eligible and may submit an application.

Please see the attached Candidate Information Pack for further information, or contact our Recruitment Team on 0121 634 5630.
