  • Maintain security and control of persons in custody who are required to attend court.
  • Transport persons in custody to the courts.
  • Receive and book persons in custody for court appearance purposes and record pertinent information.
  • Check, record and file various court documents.
  • Control, monitor and escort persons lodged in holding cells and escort them to court.
  • Maintain security and order in courtrooms.
  • Enter details of dispositions from court.
  • Take control of persons that are ordered into custody from the courtroom.
  • Monitor courthouse entrances via electronic screening.
  • Execute arrests when required.
  • Obtain DNA samples from persons in and out of custody, as ordered by the court.

Eligibility for Toronto Police Jobs

  • Successful completion of grade 12 education or an approved equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be in possession of valid Special Constable certification from Applicant Testing Services Inc. (ATS). For further information, including how to register for certification, visit www.applicanttesting.com. Valid Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) Police Constable certification from ATS is also acceptable.
  • Must be fully licensed (G class) driver and meet the requirements of the Graduated Licensing System in the Province of Ontario and have accumulated no more than six (6) demerit points. G1 and G2 licenses do not meet the requirements.
  • Must not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted.
  • Must not have any charges pending before the courts.
  • Must have Standard First Aid / Level ‘C’ CPR.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be able to achieve physical fitness standards.

 

Toronto Police Hiring: What To Expect

  • Court Officers start their career in a part time capacity and are promoted to full time when vacancies arise.
  • Starting salary is $33.33.
  • Monday to Friday schedule. A minimum of 3 hours a day, when scheduled, is guaranteed. Some weekend work and shift work is required.

Toronto Police Jobs- The Training Rate rate for Special Constable is 22.00 per hour. Once training has been completed the hourly rate will increase to $29.73 per hour.

As a Special Constable, you will be part of a team that will provide 24 hour, 7-day-a-week security and safety services to TCHC communities.   • Demonstrated experience utilizing computer software packages such as MS Word, Excel and database applications;
  • Ability to work varying/rotating shifts (including days, afternoons, evenings, holidays and weekends) and flexibility to be re-assigned as necessary;
  • Ability to successfully pass the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO) exam;
  • Requires a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class “G” or greater driver’s licence (proof of possession and driving record will be required at time of job offer);
  • Possess and maintain full security and police clearance including fingerprinting and background check;
  • Must pass mandatory re-qualification training, tests and background investigation/checks, as required;
  • Ability to successfully pass the Basic Special Constable Training Program, and maintain the designation where required.
