The Human Resource Manager supports Districts and Departments by promoting a partnership culture of consistent, professional HR support with continuous improvement across the Service. You will be responsible for providing consistent expert advice, guidance and support to operational Line Managers, Middle and Senior Managers in relation to complex people management issues – particularly through handling specific case work. You will be called on to deal with discipline, fairness at work, attendance management, resourcing, performance management and employment relations matters.

All applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must have attained the age of 18 years and be no more than 57 years on 19th April 2019.
  • Nationality: Applicants must be eligible to work permanently in the UK.
  • Education: Applicants must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A*–C grade, including Maths & English Language.
  • Computer Literacy: Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the level of computer literacy required to effectively perform the role of a constable. This will be tested at a number of stages in the recruitment process but there is no requirement for a formal IT qualification

PSNI Recruitment Noard Education Qualifications for Police officer  

You need to have a minimum education qualification of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at A* – C grade, including Maths and English Language to apply, and you must be ready to present original evidence of your exam certificates to ensure your application can continue.

Police constables also need to be some qualification. You able to demonstrate basic IT skills which will be tested at different stages of the recruitment process. You do not need to have an IT qualification to apply.

With your application form now successfully submitted, the next stage in the process is to complete the online Initial Selection Test (IST). You will receive a unique individual link for you to access the test to the email address you provide in your application form. You will receive this link by the week commencing 1st November 2018.

The IST is made up of two assessments designed by Deloitte for this recruitment process; a situational judgement test and a verbal reasoning assessment.

You have only ONE OPPORTUNITY to complete the test so we would advise you to wait until you are fully prepared before starting your IST.

You should also be aware that the IST will be re-tested at Assessment Centre.

Physical and Fitness Requirements for PSNI Recruitment Boards

You will be required to pass the Physical Competence Assessment (PCA), before entering the Police College to start training.

The PCA is an obstacle course which needs to be completed three times in 3 minutes and 54 seconds!

We would advise you to think about starting to prepare for the fitness test now!

This part of the recruitment process might seem like a long way off, but starting training now will set you in a better position to tackle the course on the day.

PSNI Recruitment Boards Gide-line for Tattoos

Having a tattoo does not necessarily prevent you from serving in or joining the PSNI. However, certain tattoos and their visibility may not be acceptable.

All officers are required to adhere to the corporate uniform standard. Therefore, any tattoo on the face, face, neck and hands or tattoo can be given by the organization which can not be covered with uniform. This includes the size, nature and prominence of the tattoo in question.

  • Tattoos will be unacceptable if they are contrary to any of the equality areas identified in Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 or are in contravention of the PSNI Good and Harmonious Working Environment.
  • Whether visible or not, tattoos will be unacceptable where they could reasonably be interpreted as offensive to members of the public or colleagues due to their content or alignment with a particular group.
  • The Police Service of Northern Ireland regularly engages with some of the most vulnerable members of society. Therefore, tattoos which conceal the identity of an officer to the extent where it would potentially inhibit their ability as a police officer to undertake their duties or which may make a member of the public feel uncomfortable, intimidated or threatened will be unacceptable.

All applicants will be required to supply tattoo photographs as a condition of recruitment process. The size, location and nature of tattoos should be described. There should be a valid translation with any tattoo containing non-English words, letters or representations.

PSNI Recruitment for Police Officer Criminal Convictions

You will not be considered for appointment to the PSNI if you have served any of the following:

  • A Custodial Sentence
  • A Suspended Sentence
  • A period of detention at a Young Offenders Centre

Additionally, if you have been convicted of an offence, have breached a court order, or received a caution, this may be taken into account when considering your application.

Before starting your training, you will be invited to an induction day in the Northern Ireland Police College, Garnville, where you will meet with your training team as well as representatives of the university, who recognize the training, the requirements of the curriculum and You will receive a visit to the Police College and for your uniforms and other accessories of the police equipment.

Training occurs in the Northern Ireland Police College, Garnerville, during a 23-week period. The program is accredited university and results in the award of an advanced diploma in police.

Learning between Induction and Your First Day in the Police College

After induction, you will need to complete and complete the pre-entry knowledge course. This material takes approximately 20 hours, is completed online, and student officer must be fully completed to start training program.
